Resurgent Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Over Two Years
Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging season, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.
His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.
This represents the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.
Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 titles at 21 various tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was over.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.
Moutet defended four initial chances in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
