PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
